Okay, I have such a weakness for fresh flowers and flower arranging. I have to have orchids on my living room coffee table and seasonal flowers in the window at my kitchen sink year round. It’s so easy to purchase potted plants from the grocery store or nursery and they last such a long time. You can’t go wrong with these traditional, fresh plants throughout your home. So, just say “no” to silk flowers!
But…I also have a passion for the unusual flower arrangement. The one that makes you stop and think, “How did they do that?” I really enjoy creating these types of arrangements, so to hone my skills I take flower arranging classes whenever I can. I recently took a class from Toronto floral designer, Bruno Duarte. Just walking into the classroom and seeing the explosion of colorful plant material that we would be using was worth the registration fee.
Bruno taught the class how to make all sorts of awe-inspiring designs including this design made by using chicken wire to form a ball and then covering it with steel grass.
For another design, we created a circular shape using wire and pussy willow and then attached anthurium for color.
The last design was a challenge for me. What do you do when you can’t control your curly willow? However, Bruno’s design was very successful.
These unconventional creations inspire and excite me. They are definitely conversation starters. So… which of these would you like to put on your coffee table?
